Advanced Algorithmic Knowledge-Based Processors

NetLogic Microsystems’ Sahasra™ family of algorithmic, knowledge-based processors is a single-chip, forwarding/LPM-optimized engine designed to provide the high route capacity for next generation switches and routers. These devices provide line-rate packet forwarding decisions at 40 Gbps and beyond.

These algorithmic devices offer the ability to store 1.5 million IPv4 routes and search them at 40 Gbps with deterministic latency. SRAM-based technology allows for significantly reduced power consumption when compared to similar TCAM densities. With the entry compaction offered by the algorithmic technology, a single Sahasra device can replace 72Mb of standard TCAM in forwarding applications, at a fraction of the cost and power.

Key applications for the Sahasra family of forwarding, knowledge-based processors include virtual router forwarding (VRF), virtual private networks (VPNs), as well as general, all layer switching and routing.
