NETLOGIC MICROSYSTEMS COLLABORATES WITH BROADCOM TO SPEED PACKET PROCESSING ON BROADCOM’S STRATA XGS III 600 SERIES OF CARRIER ETHERNET SERVICES ROUTER SILICON

Collaborative Solution Enables Carriers to Effectively Deploy a New Class of IP-based Profitable Services

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Feb. 27, 2006 – NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: NETL), the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors, today announced a collaboration with Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global leader in wired and wireless broadband communications semiconductors, to provide Ethernet routing solutions spanning the enterprise to the carrier market, setting the foundation for carriers to launch a new class of services based on cost-effective, pervasively used, Ethernet communications technology.

NetLogic Microsystems’ NL3180GLQ family of NETLiteTM processors seamlessly interface to Broadcom’s StrataXGS® III 600 Series of carrier-class Ethernet router devices to offer a multitude of intelligent packet based protocols at wire-speed on multiple gigabit Ethernet ports. These capabilities support the deployment of next-generation IP converged networks including IPv6 routing, protocol tunneling, virtual private LAN services (VPLS), policy-based routing, per-flow VoIP management, and service provider bridging. In addition to these capabilities the family of NETLite processors offers wire speed security for access control lists (ACLs) and multi-field classification.

With its ability to operate up to 250 MHz, the high-performance NL3180GLQ can connect with two StrataXGS III 600 devices via industry-standard Network Processing Forum (NPF) LA-1 specification interfaces. The high capacity rules database can support up to 512K IPv4 and up to 128K IPv6 records per device. Additionally, the NL3180GLQ device rules database can be increased to 2M IPv4 records without processing latency penalty.

“The Broadcom and NetLogic Microsystems’ collaboration delivers scalable carrier-class Ethernet solutions supporting a rich set of intelligent routing features at wire speed," said Eric Hayes, director of product marketing for Broadcom's Network Switching Business Unit. “The resulting solution enables our mutual customers to develop a new class of profitable Ethernet IP-based triple play ready services.”

The Broadcom® StrataXGS® III 600 Series provides both Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) interfaces and integrates 12 Gigabit per second (Gbps) HiGig™ SerDes (serializer/deserializer) technology for resilient scaling of StrataXGS devices across backplanes in modular chassis systems.

“NetLogic Microsystems’ proven technology continues to deliver unparalleled performance and feature-rich integration for Broadcom and our customers,” said James McDermott, director of marketing for NetLogic Microsystems. “By combining field-proven features with flexibility, scalability, and software support, we are meeting our customers’ demands for more functionality at lower system costs.”

With its high level of integration, the NL3180GLQ interfaces directly to the StrataXGS III 600 Series, general-purpose host CPU and associated data SRAM, and occupies a minimal 31mm by 31mm of board space, significantly reducing costs and power consumption.
