NetLogic Microsystems Announces New NETLite Processors Targeted at Next-Generation Merchant Silicon Switching and Network Processors
NetLogic Microsystems’ new NL56615 and NL3380 NETLite processors are manufactured in TSMC’s advanced 55nm process, delivering higher performance, lower power consumption and lower system cost for customers
Mountain View, Calif. April 28, 2008 NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. [NASDAQ: NETL], the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors and high-speed integrated circuits, today announced general availability of its NL56615 and NL3380 NETLite processors that are targeted at a new generation of merchant silicon switches and network processors from companies such as Broadcom Corporation, Marvell Technology Group Ltd., EZchip Technologies and Xelerated. NetLogic Microsystems’ new NETLite processors, which are designed with a seamless interface to the new generation of switches and network processors, enable a multitude of intelligent packet-based protocols at wire-speed on multi-Gigabit systems at lower power consumption and higher port density.
NetLogic Microsystems’ NETLite processor product line is targeted at cost-sensitive, high-volume applications such as entry-level switches, routers and access equipment. Through its collaboration with leading merchant switching and network processing vendors, NetLogic Microsystems has optimized the new additions to its NETLite processor family to support the deployment of next-generation IP-converged networks including IPv6 routing, protocol tunneling, virtual private LAN services (VPLS), policy-based routing, per-flow VoIP management, and service provider bridging.
The NL56615 and NL3380 processor families have been built on TSMC’s advanced 55nm-GP process. Through a long-standing and close collaboration with TSMC, and by leveraging existing designs, NetLogic Microsystems has developed a large library of custom circuitry that are highly optimized for high-speed packet processing at low power budgets in the TSMC 55nm process technology. This custom circuit library provides NetLogic Microsystems with significant advantage in delivering one of the densest semiconductor designs in TSMC process at lower cost and power consumption than would have otherwise been possible. The custom library includes analog and clocking circuitry for high-speed interface, core processing elements and other standard cells.
“Our new additions to the NETLite processor family are optimized to deliver the performance, cost point, feature-rich integration and low-power consumption required by customers to address the growing demand for performing forwarding and classification functions closer to the end user,” said Chris O’Reilly, vice president of marketing at NetLogic Microsystems. “By combining field-proven features with flexibility, scalability, proven interoperability and software support, we are meeting our customers’ demands for more functionality at lower system costs and faster time-to-market.”
The NL56615 and NL3380 processors are both available today and are shipping in production quantities. The addition of these two new NETLite processors has enabled NetLogic Microsystems to achieve a record number of design wins across a broad range of applications in the first quarter of 2008, including multiple design wins at Tier One OEMs. For pricing or availability details, please contact sales@netlogicmicro.com.
