Mobile World Congress 2010

Barcelona, Spain and Mountain View, Calif. – Feb. 15, 2010 – NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. [NASDAQ: NETL], a worldwide leader in high-performance intelligent semiconductor solutions for next-generation Internet networks, today announced that its multi-core processors, knowledge-based processors and 10 Gigabit Ethernet PHY devices have been designed into high-performance LTE (Long Term Evolution) systems that are powering LTE trials worldwide.  NetLogic Microsystems’ market-leading products are designed into advanced LTE NodeB/base stations, cell-site routers, gateways, switches and routers that are part of LTE trials at leading carriers and service providers worldwide.

“We congratulate our various Tier One customers worldwide for successfully powering LTE trials at some of the largest carriers in Europe, Asia and North America,” said Behrooz Abdi, executive vice president and general manager at NetLogic Microsystems.  “Our success in advanced 3G HSPA, CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA deployments, coupled with our broad portfolio of high-performance products, has uniquely positioned us as a leader in intelligent LTE silicon solutions, and we are glad to see our products being designed into virtually every node of the LTE mobile infrastructure.”

The exponential growth in global mobile traffic, IP-based smart phones, and rich applications and services is driving carriers to upgrade mobile infrastructure networks from the third-generation (3G) HSPA, CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA to fourth-generation (4G) LTE technology over the next several years in order to provide consumers with higher bandwidth services, to lower capital and operating expenses for carriers, and to mitigate the stress that mobile Internet services are placing on existing networks.  Leading carriers who have publicly announced LTE trials include AT&T, China Mobile, KDDI, Net4Mobility, SingTel, Telefonica O2, Telia Sonera, Telstra CSL, T-Mobile, Verizon, Vodafone and YahooBB.

NetLogic Microsystems provides an end-to-end wireless infrastructure solution with its market-leading portfolio of multi-core processors, knowledge-based processors, Layer 7 content processors, network search engines and 10 Gigabit Ethernet PHY devices that offers customers unprecedented breadth, depth and scalability to develop systems from mobile edge to packet core.

NetLogic Microsystems’ multi-core, multi-threaded processors offers a rich set of features and functionality with unprecedented performance and power for embedded telecommunications, enterprise, data center, security and storage applications.  These processors integrate up to eight high-performance MIPS64® cores, each with four-way simultaneous multi-threading, for a total of 32 fine-grain processor threads to mitigate latency, improve computational efficiency and throughput for network data plane and control plane processing in base stations, eNodeB, RNCs, gateways, switches, routers, ATCA and AMC service cards.  The processors also offer a best-in-class packet management, packet distribution and network accelerator engine, an intelligent Fast Messaging Network™ to maximize on-chip communications bandwidth, a superior memory sub-system, high-speed interconnects, and a broad set of acceleration engines.  This enables NetLogic Microsystems’ multi-core processors to support billions of in-flight messages and packet descriptors between all on-chip elements.  The processor family is supported by a comprehensive software development kit (SDK) that contains reference and production-ready software components, which enables customers to accelerate time-to-market.

The knowledge-based processors from NetLogic Microsystems integrate up to 128 high-performance knowledge-based processing engines, and includes an enhanced Intelligent Load Balancing Engine (ILBE) to efficiently allocate multiple tasks and communicate among all the 128 knowledge-based processing engines.  The knowledge-based processing engines and ILBE are tightly coupled with integrated advanced Sahasra® Algorithmic Engines (SAEs) to dramatically lower the power consumption of search processing.  These industry-leading processors also integrate an innovative Range Encoding Engine (REE), which employs advanced one-hot and fence encoding algorithms to implement range encoding that allows customers to effectively double the efficiency of performing port range inspection.

NetLogic Microsystems’ single-, dual- and quad-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet PHY devices deliver the highest performance and lowest power consumption for next-generation switches, routers and blade servers addressing the data center, enterprise networking, storage and service provider markets.  NetLogic Microsystems’ PHY devices are targeted at SFP+ and 10GBASE-KR backplane applications, and offer power savings and footprint reduction over competing solutions.  In addition, the PHY devices integrate its industry-leading electronic dispersion compensation (EDC), pre-emphasis on the 10G transmit lane and forward error correction (FEC) technology, as well as offer an ultra low-power mode which allows customers to power down certain operations on chip to further reduce power consumption.

NetLogic Microsystems’ NETL7 Layer 7 knowledge-based processors use Intelligent Finite Automaton (IFA) technology to accelerate packet content inspection, delivering significant performance, power and cost advantages over software-based approaches, and natively perform stateful cross-packet inspection in hardware. In addition, the NETL7 processors integrate on-chip memory to provide over 100 Terabits per second (Tbps) of ultra-low latency access bandwidth to on-chip rule databases, allowing the processors to accelerate complex and iterative content inspection while eliminating the need to provision for the high-latency and costly off-chip memory that are required by competing solutions. NETL7 Layer 7 KBPs enable wire-speed inspection of every bit in every packet, a requirement for comprehensive, best-in-class application-aware solutions for next-generation mobile wireless, data center, enterprise, service provider and small/midsize business networks.
