Features and Highlights
The ATX-IC is a standard ATX form factor evaluation board that ships with an XLR732 Processor® installed. The board enables key XLR Processor interfaces such as DDR2 memory, PCI-X, quad gigabit Ethernet MACs and SPI-4.2. In addition, a complete set of firmware, OS, and debug tools is available to enable an optimal test environment.
Since all members of the XLR Processor family are pin-compatible, the same board layout can be used to accommodate other processors of the XLR family.
The board comes in two configurations; motherboard only (with 4 Ethernet ports) and motherboard plus SPI-4.2 daughter card (with 20 Ethernet ports). The ATX-1B evaluation kit includes ATX case and power supply.
Firmware
NetLogic Microsystems provides the XLR firmware environment (boot loader) which enables initialization of all 32 threads or virtual CPU’s (vCPU) of the XLR Processor and peripherals such as L2 cache, Ethernet MACs, SPI-4.2, PCI-X, HyperTransport, DDR2 memory controller and UARTs. The XLR Firmware also provides for offline diagnostics and enables the evaluation board to boot operating systems from the network or on-board flash.
Operating System Support
The ATX-IC board supports the 32-bit Linux 2.6 and VxWorks® 5.5 and 6.2 operating systems. Full source code is available and SMP support is standard. In addition, VxWorks® 5.5 and 6.2 both contain BSP support from Wind River.
Development Tools
NetLogic Microsystems supports the industry-standard GNU compiler tool chain with an XLR-optimized GCC compiler and a MIPS cross-compile tool chain for x86 / Linux. In addition, the XLR processor is supported by the Multi-Thread-aware Corelis CodeRunner source level debugger and complete family of JTAG controllers. NetLogic Microsystems also provides an optional Linux-based XLR Debugger.
XLR Processor
The XLR Processor family is a cost-effective, single-chip solution providing the key building blocks for next-generation, scalable multi-service system solutions. It combines the power of an innovative Multi-Threaded architecture, the flexibility of extensive industry-standard media interfaces, and the simplicity of the leading edge, general purpose MIPS64 ISA-compliant architecture.
