NETLNetLogic Microsystems Home Media Player®
Application Development Kit
PRODUCT BRIEF

A Developer’s Dream

The NetLogic Microsystems Home Media Player (HMP) Application Development Kit (ADK) is a complete, low-cost, open development environment enabling developers to rapidly create and bring to market exciting, cutting-edge software applications targeted at connected Digital Photo Frames (DPFs), Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), Digital Signage, and Information Dashboards. Based on open source software and standards-based technologies, the ADK allows for virtually limitless design potential and empowers developers with the tools they need to build next generation consumer devices.

Digital Frame

Hardware Features

The evolution of the traditional Digital Photo Frame into the Home Media Player (HMP) has already begun with the addition of wireless connectivity (WiFi) to the DPF category. However, the cornerstone of differentiation rests upon the performance and capabilities of the underlying processor. With the combination of internet connectivity and Alchemy® media processors, the following features are now possible:

A Complete Hardware Solution

The HMP Application Development Kit includes a powerful hardware platform within a polished, consumer-grade industrial design. At its heart lies the industry leading NetLogic Microsystems Au1250® Processor, configurable up to 600MHz. This highly-integrated Alchemy® HMP Processor® is a low-power, high performance with a Media Acceleration Engine®, providing plenty of processing horsepower for the most intensive applications. Combined with a state-of-the-art Wi-Fi solution and copious amounts of memory, the ADK provides the perfect platform for building revolutionary and differentiated solutions.

Bits and Bytes
A comprehensive Software Development Kit (SDK) is available for the ADK enabling programmers to quickly begin development on the HMP platform. The SDK is based on the Linux 2.6.28 kernel and includes hardware drivers, a filesystem, toolchain, and an example application. The kit also includes a full multimedia stack and player with hardware-accelerated video codecs. In addition, optimized GTK+ and hardware-accelerated DirectFB libraries are bundled into the OpenEmbedded environment enabling slick user interface design and straightforward application development.

But Wait, There’s More
The complete Application Development Kit comes with the HMP unit, remote control, power supply, Ethernet and serial cables. The associated SDK with full documentation is available online and can be downloaded from http://support.rmicorp.com. Hardware design materials including OrCAD schematics, Gerbers, and electronic Bill of Materials (eBOM) for the HMP development board, as well as cost-optimized, ready-for-production version of the platform, are also available online.
