Evaluation Board for the NetLogic Microsystems XLS Processor™ Family
Communication Processor Solutions™ Product
Product Overview
The NetLogic Microsystems LiTE™ evaluation board is a comprehensive platform that provides a vehicle for rapid evaluation of the XLS Processor. Additionally, the LiTE platform design collateral — BOM, schematics, and layout—provides developers with a basis for rapid development of XLS-based™ systems tailored to their specific requirements.
The LiTE evaluation board is populated with the XLS408 or XLS208 Processor, both robust performance offerings in the XLS™ family of NetLogic Microsystems Communication Processor Solutions. The LiTE board features a convenient reduced form factor and provides key DDR2, Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe, USB, Flash memory, and diagnostic interfaces.
The key to LiTE as a system is a comprehensive SDK that contains reference software and a production-ready software kit, including device drivers for open source Linux and other commercial operating systems. The SDK also provides complete tool chains, diagnostics, and the NetLogic Microsystems firmware suite. NetLogic Microsystems’ SDK enables customers to develop or migrate existing software to high-performance, feature-rich solutions with ease.
The LiTE platform leverages the XLS Multi-Threaded cores, Fast Messaging Network (FMN) technology, high-speed point-to-point Memory Distributed Interconnect™ and I/O Distributed Interconnect™ networks, Autonomous Acceleration Engine® technology, scalability, and innovation, while taking advantage of software compatibility throughout both XLS and XLR Processor™ families. Like the XLS Processor it carries, LiTE supports a rich set of features and integration with unprecedented power and performance, for developing systems aimed at communication and telecommunication, enterprise LAN (wireless and wired), and SMB networking applications. Such applications include integrated security appliances, wireless access points and switches, ATCA and AMC service cards, secure wireless and wireline routers and switches, telecom media gateways, radio controllers, and network signaling devices.
The combination of dense computational performance, security acceleration, compression acceleration and network awareness makes t h e XLS™ Processor an exceptional answer for these embedded low power solutions. The LiTE platform enables evaluation and development while avoiding hardware development lead times.

Firmware
NetLogic Microsystems includes the XLS™ firmware environment (bootloader), which enables initialization of the multiple XLS Processor Virtual CPUs (vCPU™ ) threads and all peripherals. Key peripheral support includes L2 cache, Fast Messaging Network, Ethernet MACs, Autonomous Security Engine®, Compression Engine, PCIe, DDR2 memory controller, dual USB ports and dual UARTs. The XLS firmware also supports offline diagnostics and enables the LiTE Evaluation board to boot operating systems from the network or on-board NAND Flash or from a Compact Flash slot.
Operating System Support
The NetLogic Microsystems LiTE evaluation board is initially enabled by two standard operating systems including 32-bit Linux 2.6 with complete support for the XLS Processor. Full source code is available and SMP support is standard. Customers have early access to NetLogic Microsystems's kernel improvements. In addition, VxWorks® from Wind River is supported.
Development Tools
NetLogic Microsystems supports the industry-standard GNU compiler tool chain with an GCC compiler optimized for the XLS Processor and a MIPS cross-compile tool chain for x86/Linux. In addition, the XLS Processor is supported by the Multi-Thread-aware Corelis CodeRunner™ source level debugger and complete family of JTAG controllers. The USB interface for controlling JTAG functions is available on the LiTE Evaluation board. NetLogic Microsystems also provides an optional Linux-based XLS debugger.
